Should the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame be renamed?
Updated: Mar 3

When looking at the performers who have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I am confused. I agree that every artist currently in the R&R HOF deserves to be recognized for their contributions and accomplishments, but I don’t understand the criteria or definition of “Rock and Roll” that is used in the nomination and selection process.
Here is an example of what I am perplexed by. Let’s look at B.B. King, an absolute musical magician and worthy of all of his accolades and awards. However, B.B. King was a Blues genre artist. Here is another one, Miles Davis, an iconic Jazz genre musician. Then there is Johnny Cash, a preeminent Country genre icon.
Again, I have no quarrel with any of the inductees. I just think the name “Rock and Roll” hall of fame is to some degree misleading. When looking over the inductees, I believe that the name should be changed to something other than “Rock and Roll”, I feel a more appropriate name would be “International Music Hall of Fame”. Then create subcategories by genre, Rock and Roll, Jazz, Blues, Soul, Pop, Country, etc.
I’m R. Simon Kent and that is my view from the cheap seats, what do you think? Is this something worth discussing and proposing to the R&R HOF?
